No. Unlike many other companies, we are happy to confirm your booking without a deposit. We do, however, require you to supply your credit card details at the time of booking, but your card will not be charged until your hire commences.

If you cancel your booking 7 days or more prior to pick-up date then no cancellation charges apply. If you do not advise Roadtrip Rentals that you wish to cancel your booking and you do not show then a Cancellation charge equal to 20% of your rental will be charged. There is no refund for late-pick ups, or for the early return of your vehicle.

Yes. You are free to use the car in both the North and South Island’s. Unlike other car hire companies, Roadtrip Rentals does not restrict the car from being taken on the Interislander ferry. In fact, we would be happy to arrange ferry crossing bookings, on your behalf.

Roadtrip accept all overseas driver’s licenses. However if your driver’s license is not printed in English you will need to arrange an International Driver’s license.

You must be at least 18 years of age to hire a car from Roadtrip Rentals. Unlike some car hire companies who charge extra for younger drivers, RoadTrip charge the same price whether your 18 or 88 years old!

All rates quoted on our website include full insurance with an excess/deductible of $1,500. This means In the event of an accident you are liable for the first $1,500 of any damage done to the vehicle.

If you do not want to have such a high insurance excess you can purchase what's called Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance. This reduces the insurance excess from $1,500 to $250 and costs an additional $12 per day.

If CDW is not taken then a credit card imprint of $1,500 will be held. This will be destroyed when you return the vehicle, provided no damage has occurred. If CDW is purchased then only an imprint of $250 will be held. This will be destroyed when you return the vehicle, provided no damage has occurred

Pickup During Normal Office Hours (6am-7pm 7 days)
Once you have cleared Customs and collected your baggage, please call our freephone number provided and a representative will be sent to collect you in our Shuttle Bus. You will then be taken to our Airport Depot, 5 minutes away, where you will complete the documentation and uplift your vehicle

Pickup Outside Normal Office Hours
If you are arriving outside our normal office hours, we will fax-email you a copy of the rental contract upon confirmation of your booking. You will need to fax-email the signed contract back to us with your credit card details which will be charged on your arrival day. The vehicle will be left in the Airport Car Park and we will provide details of how to get your vehicle upon confirmation. There is a charge of NZD$10.00 for this service. There is a small charge to pay at the parking booth before you leave the car park, this is approximately NZD$4.00 per hour to a maximum amount of NZD$24.00 for overnight parking.

Dropoff Outside Normal Office Hours
The vehicle will be dropped directly into the airport carpark, instructions will be provided on collection of the vehicle. There is a charge of NZD$25.00 for this service.

If you are arriving outside our normal office hours, unfortunately Christchurch Airport will no longer allow us to leave the vehicle for you to collect on arrival. The only option is for us to have the vehicle delivered to your centrally located accommodation in Christchurch. You will need to provide us with your your accommodation details and permission from your accommodation provider for us to leave the vehicle for you to collect. We will fax / email you a copy of the rental contract upon confirmation of your booking. You will need to fax / email the signed contract back to us with your credit card details which will be charged on your arrival day. The vehicle will be left at your accommodation and the key left at reception. There is a charge of NZD$25.00 for this service.
