There are plenty of accommodation options for travellers on the road. However depending
on the season you will have to book well in advance, normally at least 2 week. December
through to February are the busiest months when looking for accommodation in New
Zealand.

staying at a backpackers or hostal
A Backpackers or Hostal is perfect for if you are travelling on the cheap. They
offer a place to lay your head down with single or shared rooms with other backpackers.
You'll normally have to provide your own sleeping bag but most will hire out bedding
to you. Usually facilities at a backpackers or hostal are shared between others
staying there, with communal kitchens, dining rooms, bathrooms and laundry.

Motels are perfect for those travellers on the road. With parking directly outside
of your room, Motels are very convenient for a one night stay while touring around
New Zealand. They can offer rooms for a car load of people, being able to accommodate
groups of up to 6. Motels are self contained, having their own kitchen and bathrooms.
Some even have spas and / or pools.

spending a few days somewhere, stay at a holiday park
Holiday parks or Campgrounds offer a range of accommodation options. They are well
suited to if you intend to enjoy an area for a couple of days. They have cabins
ranging in size, depending on your group. Cabins are usually pretty cheap and can
be very basic, normally just having a couple of beds. You'll have to make use of
the Holiday Parks shared facilities depending on the Holiday Park. If you have a
bit more money to spend why not go for a Tourist Flat instead. A step up from a
Cabin, Tourist Flat's also range in size and can be big enough to accommodate 6
and sometimes more people. They have their own bathrooms and sometimes a kitchen.
Laundry facilities are shared with other guests.

How about a Bed and Breakfast, or B&B for short. They can offer you and your group
a more ‘homely’ experience, as you will normally be a guest in
the owners own home. You can have home cooked meals with the host and really enjoy
a typical kiwi breakfast. There are also self contained Bed and Breakfast for more
of a private stay. You can have the option of being with your host or not as most
have there own private bathrooms and sometimes kitchenette's.
